The end of our Winter 2025 trip

Ten weeks away seems to be our new limit. With our son Daniel asking us to help him move to his new property in Melbourne, the need to get home and clean out Lorikeet beforehand, became more urgent. Also, we had felt for a couple of weeks that we were missing home and our daughter Emilie too.

Our final post for this trip is about the Explorer Get Together at Chinchilla with 8 other motorhomes turning up at the Charleys Creek campground. We met our old friends Joanne and Chris, Robyn and Paul, and Susie and Ken, and made new friends, Deborah, Belinda, Jane and Martin, and Kathy and Tony.

The usual game of Finska was had with Martin being the winner of the first round and Jane, the second round. They must be practising at home!

Lorikeet, being a new Nomad model motorhome, was not the only hit with the other Explorers. Our new Stratus camp chairs also got plenty of turns with many people saying they are very comfortable and light. We are hoping they last more than 6 months, which is about the time many other camp chairs have lasted for us.

A young family owns and operates the campground and is slowly getting things done to make it a great destination, the recently opened brewery/distillery being the latest finished project. Our last night was spent at the brewery tasting the boutique beers, vodkas and gins. My favourite was the watermelon gin, yummy with either soda or tonic and would be really refreshing in summer.

Chinchilla is known for its watermelons and there is Watermelon festival around February each year. We satisfied ourselves with getting a photo of the Big Watermelon slice for now but would like to come back to Chinchilla and Charleys Creek campground sometime in the future. We had a beautiful sunset on the last night to complete a lovely stay and a great maiden trip for us in Lorikeet.
